Wear Green for GOAL Day!
What is GOAL?
GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to the
alleviation of suffering amongst the poorest of the poor, founded
in Ireland. We aim to meet the fundamental needs and rights of
life, for example, food, water, shelter, medical attention and
literacy. Since its inception in 1977, GOAL has responded to almost
every major natural and man-made disaster, and is currently operating
in 11 countries.
GOAL also works with children around the world; children living
on the streets, those orphaned by disasters, child soldiers, and
those forced into child labor. We aim to provide shelter, food,
education, and most importantly hope for a better future. Sporting
activities are an important element of our programs. They attract
the children, build team spirits and offer a safe challenge. Last
year GOAL spent $86 million on the poor.
What is Wear Green for GOAL Day?
Wear Green for GOAL Day is your chance to support GOAL by raising
funds for the poorest of the poor by wearing green, painting your
face green or even dying your hair green!
How do I plan a Wear Green for GOAL Day?
Wear Green for GOAL Day is easy to plan! All you need to do is
choose a day, promote the idea and date to your entire company
or school and set a fundraising goal. This can be done class by
class (to create a competitive spirit) or a fundraising goal can
be set for the entire school to reach together.
Three weeks before your set date: have people sign up to participate
in Wear Green for GOAL Day and give them a sponsorship form so
they can raise funds from their friends and neighbors or you can
set a donation amount ($2-$10) to participate, in lieu of sponsorship
fundraising.
Place posters and GOAL donation boxes in every classroom, in the
cafeteria and common areas, get teachers and administration involved
in the event, make announcements to classes and at assemblies to
get the word out. Set-up face painting stations in the lunchroom
or recess area give out or sell green Hawaiian leis or beads, just
get creative! The most important thing is to get all of the students,
teachers and administration involved and excited about the day!
